Child as a man of revival
I will not discuss fashionable themes of parental hypercompension and harm of early development. I propose to look at the problem from another point of view.
Childhood is not just a wonderful time for many of us when social obligations are almost absent. This is also the period of active development of the brain.
It is known, for example, that aged from one to three years in the brain, it is formed every second to two million synapses – neural connections responsible for the transfer of nerve pulses and forming neural networks – the basis of the central nervous system.
It is neurons that help different areas of the brain to transmit information to each other and thereby ensure the most important processes – memory, speech, body management, productive activities, etc.
According to the Review of the Early Childhood Education Degrees web resource, the process of forming neural connections is most active from four to about 23 years. At this time, the ties die, which the brain will consider unnecessary, new, reflecting the actual activities of man. The process of the formation of synapses is significantly weakened after 25, but usually does not stop the whole life, since it depends on the intensity of human training.
A study conducted about 10 years ago by a group of scientists of the functional magnetic resonance imaging tomography of the University of Oxford University, revealed an unambiguous relationship between the number of neural ties in the human brain and the quality of his life.
People whose brain has a large number of synapses, as a rule:
- Higher education had,
- were well socialized members of society without problems with law,
- Often, a healthy lifestyle,
- differed in a good psychological state,
- stated a high level of satisfaction with their lives.
The conclusion from all this is quite simple: the more diverse neural connections formed in the child, the better. Especially versatile, he will be in adulthood and the more chances he has to successfully integrate the society of the future.
One of the cultural memes of human civilization for several centuries was the "Renaissance". Polymat – from Greek Polys (Many) and Mathein (Learn). Personality that became famous for great achievements in different, often polar, spheres: accurate sciences, art, natural science.
This concept brought us the Renaissance era (XIV-XVII centuries.), who presented the world of people like Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilee, the Persian scientist encyclopedic al-Biruni and, of course, our Svetok Mikhailo Lomonosov.
In the later century, this phenomenon did not disappear. Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev well known to us, which, contrary to legends, did not do any suitcases for sale, and I did not invented vodka, but left the achievements in chemistry, physics, metrology, economics, geology, meteorology, refining, instrument maidening, as well as pedagogy and aeronautics.
One of the last "Renaissance" was James Stewart. He was not only a famous Hollywood actor, but also a successful military pilot – fought on the Second World War, and after her, continuing to act in the cinema, was reached by the title of a brigade general.
It is said that the time of "Renaissance" has passed. So much knowledge has been accumulated in each of the spheres that one person is not able to comprehend and integrate them. So, and "synthetic geniuses" humanity will no longer generate.
The era of in-depth specialization and collective work in all areas has come.
Possible, and so, but it seems to me that the time of new polymatists has not yet come. After all, it is not a secret that all truly significant discoveries in science and achievements in art are not currently committed within individual destinations, exercises and spheres, but on the borders between them. On junctions between biology and physics, physics and chemistry, physics and mathematics, psychology and medicine, cinema and theater, music and painting. And in order to create in the world of the future, a person will need knowledge and skills from a wide variety of spheres.
In the modern world with its high speeds of passing information and the constant change of trends, the idea that the lesson is selected once and for life is no longer relevant.
Man will have to repeatedly change its scope for life. Part of the professions will periodically disappear as unnecessary, others will be so often intensively transformed, which, even choosing a matter of life, will need to be constantly returned.
Sinapses and the future
What all this is related to children’s classes and hobbies? The most direct. The more diverse classes and hobbies has a child in childhood, the more he will have neural ties in the brain. After all, it is known that they are formed precisely as a result of obtaining new knowledge and mastering new skills. When reinforcing old knowledge and skills, new synapses do not appear or almost do not appear. And if for adults it is not so important, for children, the extension of the neural network is of great importance. I’m not talking about the important psychological effect from such a polyphony of children’s hobbies.
Trying different, starting and throwing, the child gets permission to make acts of independent choice, which, of course, is also very useful to him in adulthood.
It seems to you that the child cannot bring the case to the end? Half a year he was engaged in chess, then a year by boxing, then drawing, and after – sang in the choir? And even on his beloved robotics did not delay? Perhaps this is not disassembly and nonsense. Maybe he just already knew the foundations, felt his occupation or not, and I am ready to go further – to the formation of new neural connections.
Let’s think about why we, parents, so strive for stability, forcing the child to completely give out one lesson? It may seems to us that, becoming an in-depth professional since childhood, he will be insured against mistakes in adulthood? But what do you want more: so that the child does not make mistakes or to be happy?
